2017 - 2018
This is a great time to be learning the French language and culture. Statistics show that learning a second language improves your brain-power, makes you more employable and makes traveling easier and more enjoyable. Besides that, our French program is on the verge of major change, with a much heavier emphasis on oral communication ~ both speaking and listening. Here is a list of what you should know for the upcoming school year:
Assignments: You will be given considerable class time to work on assignments and you are expected to hand in assignments on time. This is your opportunity to show what you have learned.
Attendance: It is very important to understand newly taught material. Should you be sick or absent on any given day, it is your responsibility to catch-up on missed work.
Curriculum: French is divided into 4 strands: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.
Daily Work: Daily work is important to complete. It prepares you for your assignments.
Help: I am available outside of class time for extra help if you need it. In any case, if you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come see me right away!
Homework: Take the time to review & practice new lessons so that you are better prepared for upcoming activities and tests.
Listening: Listening skills are determined and enhanced through testing and daily work. When you follow directions immediately, I know you are listening!
Participation: If you participate in class and make a consistent effort to speak French as much as possible, you will do well.
Speaking: This helps you use the French language in a meaningful way and improve pronunciation. Our daily warm up is an excellent opportunity to show your capabilities, as are our interactive games.
Tests: Please take the time to study in short increments leading up to a test instead of waiting until the night before. If you are having difficulty with a concept or you just want to make sure you are on the right track, you have plenty of time to come see me for help.
Technology: We will be using technology for various tasks throughout the year. Please remember that this is a privilege. It is extremely important to use technology appropriately whether it is from home or school.
Let's have a fantastic year! ~ Mme Spagnuolo
